The Arizona Media Association (AMA) believes in a fundamental democratic process that empowers individuals to express their opinions and influence the governance of their communities and countries.

The AMA has spent recent months supporting the democratic process by hosting debates, creating an election-day hotline for journalists, and encouraging everyone to vote for the candidates and issues important to them.

The Arizona Media Association partnered with The Arizona Citizens Clean Elections Commission to make Arizona’s 2024 debates the most accessible in Arizona history. The 29 debates included candidates for Arizona’s U.S. Senate race, U.S. Congressional districts, Corporation Commission, select county-level races, and select ballot propositions.

Chris Kline, President and CEO, of Arizona Media Association explained, “Politics are charged right now. Providing any forum for voters to hear from candidates (and see their interactions) is a service worth dedicating the time to do.”

All debates included a Spanish audio translation and ASL interpreters for maximum accessibility. Both candidates were given an equal amount of time to respond to every question. The Arizona Media Association has also created a unique way to support newsrooms during the highly anticipated 2024 general election. For the entire week of the general election, the AMA partnered with a local law firm to offer an emergency legal hotline with legal experts available 24/7 and free of charge for journalists with election-related questions or concerns.

The Arizona Media Association encourages everyone in our state to remain active in our political processes, to vote for the candidates and issues important to them, and to build community connection with one another as we all come out the other side of this election season.
