We can add another checkbox in the win column for local radio.
Lobbying efforts to oppose the creation of a new radio performance tax have hit the required bench mark of support in both chambers of the US Congress.
The Local Radio Freedom Act declares that Congress should not impose any new performance fee from music playing on local radio stations.
A majority of members in both the US House and US Senate have signed their support.
That bench mark includes six members of Arizona’s US Congressional delegation:
Rep. Paul Gosar
Rep. Tom O’Halleran
Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick
Rep. Debbie Lesko
Rep. Ruben Gallego
Sen. Kyrsten Sinema
Alongside heavy support from the National Association of Broadcasters, this move means there should be no immediate threat of more performance royalties on local radio stations.
Radio broadcasters already face high fees to play music and we’re fighting a music industry that wants Congress to require even more fees.
