ABA effort to bring marijuana ad clarity leads to official DC coalition

As we shared with you this spring, the ABA has joined with other state broadcasting associations to launch a lobbying effort for marijuana advertising access. We are asking Congress to provide legal clarity on advertising rules and help us close the gap between state-level marijuana laws that decriminalize its use and federal marijuana laws that continue to ban it.

Out of our plans has come a “Safe Advertising Coalition” focused entirely on clarity to the conflicting marijuana rules so that stations have the ability to accept or decline this business without fear of legal uncertainty.

This coalition is being led by the Washington lobbying group Klein/Johnson — and as part of the effort, we’ve created a one-page summary of our ask to Congress. You can read it here.

As you know, Arizona is one of 15 states that has passed laws legalizing both medical and recreational marijuana use. Our effort includes a number of potential solutions — all of which are under evaluation with bi-partisan members of Congress right now. More as we learn it!
