As we shared with all of you in April, one of the more consequential bills for Arizona broadcasters has been signed into law by Governor Ducey.
HB2772 allows professional and college sports betting at Arizona tribal casinos, at sites owned by pro sports teams, and online. This will open up an entirely new advertising category across the state.
Before becoming law, amendments to a new tribal gaming compact needed to be approved by the U.S. Department of Interior and also posted to the federal registrar. According to Governor Ducey, this has now happened.
The Arizona Department of Gaming will now start licensing the gambling companies allowed to operate in Arizona. As those licenses are reviewed and approved, those companies will be able to start advertising, likely this summer. You can follow the progress on the AZ Department of Gaming sports betting page.
Should you choose to pursue or accept any of this advertising, the bill’s passage has the potential to be a big category for Arizona broadcasters. The language of the bill has been protected to allow maximum advertising flexibility thanks to some work from our ABA Lobbyist John Moody. Let us know of any questions.
