Position Overview

 

As Traffic Editor of KTAR-FM, you will play a critical role in gathering relevant information such as crashes, road construction and breaking traffic news and regularly deliver traffic reports as scheduled. We’re looking for a highly motivated, organized, detail-oriented professional to stay engaged and alert of all traffic news updates, gather timely traffic information, execute traffic alerts and contribute to the digital content distribution of breaking traffic news. This position will also be a part of the KTAR newsroom. This part-time position is an opportunity for a hungry broadcast professional with a desire to contribute to a winning team and lead a traffic department within the newsroom.

 

Note: Work configurations are subject to change based on business needs and at company discretion.

This position is an onsite role that requires the employee to regularly work at our Phoenix site.
What You Will Do:

 

Traffic Reporting [weekends]

Provide on-air traffic reports in 8 hours shifts on Saturdays and Sundays.
Utilize traffic cameras, official social media sources, monitoring of police scanners and internal Bonneville resources to deliver traffic news on air.
Gather and provide a running list of problems on Phoenix-area roads, freeways and situations affecting traffic for use KTAR Traffic Center staff.
Opportunities to fill-in weekdays and during morning and afternoon drives during holidays or when full-time staff is unavailable.
News Editor

On weekends, you may contribute to the general news gathering process for newscasts.
Contribute to news coverage by pitching or enterprising potential stories.
Write copy for on-air quickly, clearly and accurately
Cultivate and maintain news sources
Present news in a concise, conversational and accurate manner on-air
Opportunities to fill-in weekdays as desk editor during holidays or when full-time staff is unavailable.
Skills and Experience We Are Looking For:

A minimum of 2 years of traffic reporting experience and news editor or producer experience preferred.
The ability to understand and utilize news feeds and social media.
Sound news judgement and ability to simplify press releases as well as government, and law enforcement information.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including conversational, yet professional news delivery.
Proficiency in editing audio using software like Audition or Newsboss Audio Editor desired.
Prefer knowledge in using news software Newsboss.
Multilingual skills preferred. Spanish language speaking and writing preferred.
Strong desire to work at Arizona’s largest and most respected award-winning news radio station.

Physical Demands

Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively.
Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to operate computer keys and general office equipment. Ability to work on a computer for prolonged periods of time.
Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
